The following are the basic care and maintenance that you must do for your lightweight body armor. Basic care and maintenance of your lightweight body armor is essential in order to maintain the quality of your armor and to preserve its effectiveness and performance.
1. Your lightweight body armor must be fitted comfortably. Whatever type of body armor you have, correct fitting is essential in order to have the maximum protection that you can get from your lightweight body armor. Make sure that your lightweight body armor is not worn too tight or too loose on you. Your lightweight body armor has adjustable straps which you can use in order to make your armor fitted on you properly. 2. Physical inspection of your lightweight body armor is also important. Do a physical inspection of the lightweight body armor before wearing it. This will allow you to get to know your body armor better and to check on possible damages and strains. Being able to see minor damages will enable you to repair the damages at once so you won’t have to buy for another one. 3. Look for laundry instructions if there are any. If none, follow these instructions: a. Don’t machine wash the ballistic panels. You can remove the ballistic panels from the carrier if you want to wash your body armor. Hand wash for the ballistic carrier is better than machine wash. b. Don’t soak your lightweight body armor in water. This will greatly affect the materials used on the ballistic panels. It will weaken the fabrics thus a reduced performance and protection from your lightweight body armor. c. Use only mild detergent when washing your lightweight body armor. Scrub or wash it gently. 4. Never expose your lightweight body armor under direct sunlight. This is because the ultraviolet rays of the sun will degrade the materials used on the ballistic panels. Dry it on a well ventilated area. |
